Microphony
Also called: microphony, microphonic
Audible response of a tube to mechanical vibration. The internal structure (cathode, grid wires) vibrates and modulates the plate current. A well-designed tube has tightly-spaced grid pillars and rigid mica spacers. NOS Telefunken and Amperex are renowned for low microphony.
